Effective potential in an open Kaluza-Klein universe

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
The one-loop effective potential of scalar fields is computed for the background of the product of the open Robertson-Walker metric and the N-dimensional sphere in the static approximation. An alternating pattern of sign change appears repeatedly as N varies. This result suggests qualitatively different behavior for the cosmological evolution of such Kaluza-Klein universes with different values of N.
