The observable consequences of the dynamic Jahn-Teller effect due to quantum fluctuations between the six degenerate [ital D][sub 5[ital d]] polaronic configurations on a singly charged C[sub 60][sup [minus]] molecule are considered. The multiphonon infrared-absorption spectrum is calculated taking into account the dynamic symmetry breaking. Some of the Jahn-Teller active (also Raman-active) modes are predicted to be observable as multiphonon overtones in the infrared absorption.
