Density of states in unconventional superconductors: Impurity-scattering effects
- Department of Physics, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907 (United States)
The density of states in unconventional superconductors, [ital N][sub [ital s]]([ital E]), is very sensitive to impurity scattering, especially at low energies. We investigate the behavior of [ital N][sub [ital s]]([ital E]), using both numerical calculations and analytic approximations; we discuss the Born limit, the unitarity limit, and the crossover between these two cases. We consider a two-dimensional electron gas with a [ital d]-wave order parameter of the form [Delta]([cflx k])=[Delta]([cflx k][sub [ital x]][sup 2][minus][cflx k][sub [ital y]][sup 2]). The low-energy structure in [ital N][sub [ital s]]([ital E]) should be quite general, applying to all gaps with the same general behavior.
