Use of polysulfide treated molecular sieves to remove mercury from liquefied hydrocarbons
This patent describes a process for removing mercury from a liquid hydrocarbon stream or dry gaseous stream. It comprises: drying a molecular sieve at a temperature of between 350 and 450{degrees}C. in an anhydrous nonreactive atmosphere: contacting the molecular sieve with an aqueous solution of water soluble alkali polysulfide until the molecular sieve is saturated with the aqueous solution; drying the saturated molecular sieve at a temperature between about 10 and about 75{degrees}C. and a pressure of less than about 500 millimeters of mercury to deposit the water soluble alkali polysulfide onto the molecular sieve without decomposing the waste soluble alkali polysulfide; contacting the gaseous or liquid hydrocarbon stream with the dried molecular sieve and recovering a gaseous or liquid hydrocarbon stream depleted of mercury.
