A kickover tool apparatus for use in placing and removing flow control devices in and from a side pocket mandrel is described, comprising: orienting means, tray means connected to the lower end of the orienting means and having inwardly biased kickover means pivotally mounted thereon. The kickover means includes normally retracted, laterally shiftable guide means for causing outward pivotal movement of the kickover means when the guide means is shifted outward. The orienting means includes upper and lower dog means and means for mounting the dog means in a predetermined angular relationship to one another; and control means coupled to the dog means and responsive to a change in the angular relationship for caming the kickover means outwardly to permit lateral shifting of the normally retracted guide means.
