Kincaid Station, is located twenty miles southeast of Springfield, Illinois. The station's two 591 megawatt units burn Illinois coal. The station is actually located at the mouth of Peabody Mine {number sign}10. Each unit is comprised of a Babcock and Wilcox cyclone fired once through boiler, and a Westinghouse reheat turbine. Each unit utilizes three forced draft fans. These American Blower series AF3200 fans are rated at 495,000 SCFM. These fans are double inlet, double width centrifugal blowers with ten paairs of airfoil type blades, driven by a 7000 horsepower motor. AAt 1185 RPM, the 115 inch wheels have a peripheral speed of 404 mph. The brittle failure of 23 of these fans is discussed in this paper.
