This paper discusses how the materials for advanced boiler water reactors (ABWR) have been selected based on consideration of intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) resistance, cobalt reduction, radiation effects, and boiler water reactor (BWR) performance history. In addition, minimizing in-service inspection has been addressed by elimination of vessel seam welds and use of forged and bent piping sections.
