High-resolution neutron capture cross sections in /sup 63/Cu and /sup 65/Cu. II. [KeV region]

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Neutron capture cross sections in separated isotopes of copper (/sup 63/Cu and /sup 65/Cu) from a few keV to a few hundreds of keV were measured. From these measurements the capture yields of resonances were accurately determined, giving precise values of gGAMMA/sub n/ and GAMMA/sub ..gamma../ GAMMA/sub lambda/ up to a maximum neutron energy of 50 keV. For /sup 63/Cu one obtains a value of = 490 +- 30 meV, p-wave average level spacing /sub l=V = 0.495+- 0.026 keV, and strength function S/sub 1/ =(0.44+-0.07) x10/sup -4/ eV/sup -1///sup 2/. For /sup 65/Cu, one obtains a value for = 385+-20 meV, /sub l=/sub 1// = 0.685+-0.060 keV, and S/sub 1/ =(0.47+-0.08) x10/sup -4/ eV/sup -1///sup 2/. The corresponding s-wave mean level spacings for /sup 63/Cu and /sup 65/Cu are 1.04+-0.11 and 1.47 +-0.19 keV, respectively. Some few of the narrowest levels have been assumed formed by d waves.
