Fuel and poison rod bowing. [PWR]

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7228157
Bowing of fuel and poison rods has been observed in operating PWR's of C-E and other manufacturers. The severity and frequency of bow may be a function of burnup, as well as of manufacturing tolerances and of basic design features. Several of these features in C-E reactors result in fuel rod bowing of significantly lower magnitude than that observed in other reactors. The report presents observational data for bowing in C-E reactors, predicts bowing magnitude on a generic basis to end of life, and discusses the effects of fuel and poison rod bowing on power peaking, DNB, fretting, and corrosion. It is shown that no significant rod-bow related effects on plant operation are expected for C-E reactors.
