Strong interactions and the. delta. I = 1/2 rule in weak nonleptonic decays. [Two-quark operator, Wilson expansion, Hamiltonian, matrix elements]

The possible importance of the two-quark operator which appears in the Wilson expansion of the nonleptonic Hamiltonian in models with right-handed currents is examined. Matrix elements are found to be unimportant for hyperon decays, where the Pati-Woo theorem already provides ..delta..I = 1/2 enhancement. However, such terms are of much greater significance for kaon decay.
