This patent describes an amorphous metallic precipitate consisting essentially of the formula (M/sub 1/)/sub a/(M/sub 2/)/sub b/ wherein M/sub 1/ is Fe and M/sub 2/ is SnTe/sub 4/ and the integers a and b which provide stoichiometric balance are respectively 2 and 1. The precipitate has been formed from a solution of chemical compound M/sub 1/X and YM/sub 2/ in a chemical solvent wherein YX are soluble in the solvent.
