A survey based mainly on the Institute of Gas Technology's research on the conversion of living (biomass) and waste organic materials to high-Btu SNG covers the potential fuel production from biomass, including land and water plants; the location of plants to produce the SNG; the available gasification processes, including pyrolysis, hydrogasification, and anaerobic digestion; bioconversion work at the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT); the IGT BIOGAS process, based on the anaerobic digestion of municipal solid wastes and sewage sludge; the gasification of agricultural (especially feedlot) wastes; and biomass gasification.
