Determination of airborne cadmium in environmental tobacco smoke using Compton suppression NAA

Conference · · Transactions of the American Nuclear Society; (United States)
OSTI ID:7225346
Instrumental neutron activation analysis (NAA) is not well suited to determine cadmium below one part per million. Previous NAA methods used to determine very low levels of cadmium in biological materials have required prechemical or post-radiochemical separations. In this laboratory, the authors have been very successful using Compton suppression and epithermal NAA to determine cadmium in biological certified reference materials. They have begun a preliminary study to ascertain if this method is adequate to determine cadmium in environment tobacco smoke in public places.
