This patent describes an internal combustion engine, with cylinders in a line, a cylinder head having a combustion chamber ceiling for each cylinder. The ceilings have a common centerline extending along the line of cylinders, intake valves and ports on one side of the centerline and exhaust valves and ports on the other side of the centerline. The cylinder head has a first window opposite the intake valves and a second window opposite the exhaust valves for access to the valves, a ceiling wall integrally formed in the cylinder head having an upper section extending between and in contact with the first and second windows, and spark plug housings extending from the section of the ceiling wall to substantially the centerline of each the combustion chamber ceiling for receiving a spark plug.
