Dielectric and superconducting phase transitions in intrinsic semimetals

Journal Article · · Sov. Phys. - Solid State (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:7223891
It is shown that in an isotropic intrinsic semimetal the dielectric phase can be stabilized by single-particle interband transitions produced by the Coulomb and electron--phonon interactions, irrespective of the sign of the electron--hole interaction. The superconducting transition in a semimetal is investigated and it is shown that superconductivity is possible either in the absence of a dielectric gap or in its presence if the binding energy of a Cooper pair is larger than the band gap.
