Role of SNG in the US energy balance

Journal Article · · Pipe Line Ind.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7223587

A discussion of the current status and outlook for SNG covers the indications that U.S. shortfalls in gas and oil will increase unless synthetic supplies are produced from coal and oil shale; the uncertainties that exist owing to price regulation of SNG by the U.S. Federal Power Commission with simultaneous uncontrolled costs of meeting environmental regulations and of importing petroleum feedstocks; and a comparison of the costs for plants to produce synthetic fuels from naphtha, from crude oil, from coal, and from oil shale.
