Integrated. gamma. -ray and betatron flaw-detection system

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Nondestr. Test. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A universal flaw detection system that will work with an isotope source or with the beam from a betatron is described. The equipment can be used not only to detect local flaws but also in measurement mode (thickness or density monitoring). It has been used in an automated flaw-detection system for monitoring welded joints. The system provides for detecting internal and external flaws of the type of gas pores, shrinkage holes, slag inclusions, cracks, etc. The equipment also includes means of measuring defect parameters (area, length, volume); the effects of slow change in thickness or drift in photomultiplier gain are balanced out by means of two filters with different time constants, which are connected to the inputs of the comparator.
