A method is described for converting feed hydrocarbons comprising at least one of C/sub 3/ and C/sub 4/ hydrocarbons to less saturated hydrocarbons comprising: contacting the feed hydrocarbons with a catalyst composition selected from the group consisting of: (a) a catalyst composition consisting essentially of: about 0.1 to 30 wt. % of each of (1) at least one oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of silicon, aluminum and titanium, and (2) at least one oxide of manganese and the balance of (3) at least one oxide of magnesium, and (b) a catalyst composition consisting essentially of: about 0.1 to 30 wt. % of each of (1) at least one oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of silicon, aluminum and titanium, (2) at least one oxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of calcium, strontium, barium, tin and antimony, and (3) at least one oxide of manganese, and the balance of (4) at least one oxide of magnesium, the wt. % being expressed in terms of the element based on the total weight of the catalyst, under conditions sufficient to convert the feed hydrocarbons to the less saturated product hydrocarbons.
