Conference ·
OSTI ID:7221317

This symposium was sponsored by the Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry of the American Chemical Society. Twenty-two papers or panel discussions were entered individually into EDB and ERA and eleven into EAPA. The papers deal with the coal deposits and proven reserves of the USA, coal mining production (forecast to 2000), labor relations and personnel training, safety, transport of coal by unit trains and slurry pipelines, US ERDA's coal conversion, fluidized-bed, MHD and demonstration plant programs, coal gasification, coal liquefaction, solvent refined coal, advanced power plants (combined-cycles, fluidized-bed combustion, etc.), and some heart-rending problems experienced by companies proposing coal gasification plants and coal-fired power plants in the southwestern USA due to environmental problems, uncertain and conflicting jurisdiction and changing rules of all the state and federal agencies involved.
