Superconductivity and ferromagnetism in narrow-band semiconductors with inverse population of the bands

The occurrence of nonequilibrium superconductivity in narrow-band semiconductors with an inverse population of the energy bands is studied in the case of paramagnetic and ferromagnetic states of the electron system. Using the Wannier representation in the tight-binding approximation it is shown that when the screened Coulomb interaction is strong, a Bose condensate of bound electron pairs forms at a level in the middle of the forbidden band for the case of equal widths for conduction and valence bands. For a ferromagnetic system instability can occur with formation of a superconducting condensate of singlet and triplet pairs (12 references).
