Functional analytic treatment of the transport equation

A historical review of rigorous transport theory is presented. The original Larsen--Habetler work is reviewed and how the functional calculus is obtained in Lp spaces is described. Hangelbroek's approach to transport problems is outlined. The multigroup theory is described and it is shown that one is led to a system of non-singular non-linear integral equations for the Weiner--Hopf factorization. Some remarks are made on the solution of these equations and an explanation is given how these methods have been applied to problems involving anisotropic scattering. (GHT)
