Experiments at liquid helium temperatures on macroscopic quantum effects and general relativity. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7218375
A review is presented of research in the following three areas: (1) preliminary research on the design of a low temperature Gyro experiment to check the general theory of relativity by an experiment proposed by L.I. Schiff; (2) quantized flux in superconductors which is found to be in integral units of Hc/2E instead of Hc/E; and (3) the scattering of light from He II to see quantized vortices. During this investigation, a superconducting circuit was developed capable in principle of measuring 10 to the -11th power gauss, and the idea of a truly zero magnetic field region was conceived, made possible by the fact of flux quantization in superconductors.
