Status of active deep mines in the Monongahela River Basin

In December 1963, a conference at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the matter of pollution of the interstate waters of the Monongahela River in the States of West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania was called under provisions of Section 10 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. The purpose of this conference was to bring together control agencies and other interested parties to give careful consideration to the acid mine drainage problem and other pollution problems in the Monongahela River basin.
