This report and accompanying field manual offers the Commonwealth of Kentucky a means to aid in the control of chemical stream pollution resulting from surface mining. It attacks the source of the problem, chemical contaminants contained within the overlying strata associated with the coal seam. The study, designed and primarily aimed at the pre-mining identification of potential chemical pollution characteristics, will serve to strengthen state programs directed toward protecting Kentucky's streams and rivers.
