Process for decolorizing oils

A process of decolorizing hydrocarbon distillates in a plurality of chambers containing contact material and containing sulfuric acid is described. The hydrocarbon distillate is passed upward through reaction chambers arranged in series relation. The passage of distillate is continued until the acid is substantially exhausted in successive individual portions. The acid and reaction products are removed in successive individual portions.
