Proton orbital 1/2/sup -/(521) and the stability of superheavy elements

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
We present experimental evidence for the identification of the deformed proton orbital 1/2/sup -/(521) in /sup 251/Es and /sup 247/Bk. The implications of this finding with respect to the stability of superheavy elements in the vicinity of Zapprox. =114 are discussed.
