Radial transport/Fokker-Planck model for a tokamak plasma

Journal Article · · J. Comput. Phys.; (United States)

In neutral-beam heated Tokamaks and the two-energy-component toroidal fusion test reactor (TFTR) there is warm Maxwellian background plasma which can be described by a set of macroscopic transport equations, and one or more energetic species which are quite non-Maxwellian and should be described by the Fokker-Planck equation. the coupling of these systems is by means of sources of particles and energy in the multispecies transport equations and a time-dependent Maxwellian target plasma in the multispecies Fokker-Planck equations. We have developed a new hybrid code which solves the time-dependent equations of these models simultaneously. Numerical results for a TFTR are presented.
