The self-consistent code for single mode operation of a gyrotron has been modified to include the effect of the voltage depression due to space charge on the beam parameters. This can have a large effect on the efficiency, especially if other parameters are not adjusted to compensate. First, the authors describe the modifications required to take into account the voltage depression, then give a brief review of the standard theory, and finally present some numerical results, including a comparison with experiment.
