An overview of sick building investigations and legal issues

This article presents an overview of sick building syndrome (SBS), covering the following four topics: sources of indoor contaminants, how indoor air investigations are performed, legal issues related to SBS, and how to manage indoor air quality problems to avoid litigation. The article includes case histories including state office workers in Wisconsin and New York, other office workers in commercial buildings, and children in elementary schools. Steps to designing and keeping a healthy building are included.
