The superconducting state in the doped fullerenes is due to strong coupling (e.g., [lambda][approx]2.1 for Rb[sub 3]C[sub 60]) to low-frequency intramolecular modes [tilde Omega][congruent][Omega][sub L][approx]250 cm[sup [minus]1] ([tilde Omega][identical to][l angle][Omega][sup 2][r angle][sup 1/2]). The analysis is based on an equation describing T[sub c] for any strength of the coupling and on recent isotope effect and NMR data. 19 refs.
