A new deterministic particle method is presented for treating the diffusion term in the vorticity formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations. It is based on the discrete approximation of the Laplacian on an irregular grid. The particles are convected according to the velocity field and their weight evolves according to the diffusion. The general properties of the method are analyzed. The method has been implemented in two dimensions in the case of an unbounded domain. The results of the method are studied numerically by comparison with an exact solution. 32 refs., 8 figs., 1 tab.
