Grating coupled emission Pb/sub 1-//sub x/Sn/sub x/Se/Pb/sub 1-//sub x//sub -//sub y/Eu/sub y/Sn/sub x/Se double-heterostructure stripe-geometry diode lasers were fabricated using molecular beam epitaxy. Low-divergence far-field patterns of approx.5/sup 0/ for multimode operation and approx.2/sup 0/ for single-mode operation were obtained. These are the lowest values ever achieved with Pb salt lasers.
