A study of the effect of proximity to roads or the body burden of lead was made with populations of small mammals. Hair samples of sorex sp., Peromyscus Maniculatus, Eutamias towendii, and Microtus sp. taken from roadsides, urban parklands, and wilderness areas revealed a significantly higher lead concentration in those animals taken from roadsides. No differences was found in hair from wilderness mammals and hair from specimens taken sixty years ago. (JWP)
