Middle East oil in a revolutionary age

Book ·
OSTI ID:7195780
Public confusion over the political and economic motives of Arab nations was increased by conflicting interpretations from the media and government spokesmen. A review of the issues includes discussion on the Arab-Israeli conflict, rapid development of the mid-east oil, tax and price agreements, the spread of nationalism, and the Arab boycott, with subsequent meetings and decisions. Concentration on the economic problems may have distracted attention from the more significant political motivations of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries). The wisdom of America's Project Independence is questioned in light of the increasing interdependencies of world nations in many fields of endeavor. Serious dialog between consuming and producing nations to reach politically and economically acceptable resolutions is urged. (DCK)
