Polishing techniques used by AFCRL for polishing alkali halides are described. A brief rationale is given for the techniques and materials required for low damage window polishing. Step-by-step procedures are outlined for use by technician or higher level individuals interested in window polishing. Particular attention is given to methods of rough cutting mechanical polishing and chemical polishing of KCl crystals. (GRA)
