Excitation functions of the (n,2n) reactions of /sup 12/C and /sup 238/U

The excitation functions of the reaction /sup 12/C(n,2n)/sup 11/C for incident neutron energies from 23 to 34 MeV and of /sup 238/U(n,2n)/sup 237/U from 13 to 18 MeV have been measured with activation techniques. The results are compared with existing data and interpreted with the statistical model approach. The calculations performed for /sup 238/U include fission competition and preequilibrium contributions to account for an enhanced (n,2n) yield at projectile energies above 15 MeV. 4 figures (auth)
