Reactivity of isocyanate groups of 2,4-TDI in reactions of urethane formation

The kinetics of the reaction of 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate with n-butanol in benzene and dioxane medium in the presence of triethylamine and tin dibutyldilaurate was studied by the PMR method. The rate constants of all four possible successive-parallel reactions were calculated, and their thermodynamic parameters were determined. It was shown that a tertiary amine equalizes the activity of the isocyanate groups in the 2 and 4 positions; tin dibutyldilaurate is maximally selective.
