Research studies on laser harmonic generation. Annual report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7193347
Work has been concentrated on the construction of a high-power Nd:YAG laser and generation of vacuum ultraviolet and soft x-ray radiation using harmonic techniques. A laser system was fabricated that yields a single 25 psec pulse with a peak power of about 5 x 10/sup 8/ W, demonstrated the technique of generation of vacuum ultraviolet radiation in phase-matched mixtures of inert gases, and demonstrated, for the first time, stimulated emission in multiple photon-pumped Xe and Ar excimers, leading to possibilities of broad band and tunable vacuum ultraviolet radiation.
