Radioactive material transportation packaging review: FY-1987: Packages with both DOE and NRC certificates
As a result of revisions, the basis for certification of Type B packaging and a limited number of Type A fissile packaging presently in use are being evaluated for compliance with the new regulations. The major activity completed by this task during FY-1986 was the gathering and evaluation of 46 Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs) relative to the current regulations. During FY-1987, 18 DOE packages that also have NRC certificates were evaluated in a similar manner. The review was performed in two phases. Phase I included the identification of relevant packaging at each DOE Field Office and an evaluation of the Safety Analysis Report for Packaging (SARP) for completeness. Phase II included a technical review of each SARP relative to current regulations and discussion of the findings with personnel from the DOE Field Offices. The results of the Phase I and Phase II evaluations and the Field Office meetings are summarized in this report.
