China has initiated an aggressive, national industrialization program and has gradually been introducing market reforms, particularly in the southeastern section of the country. This program has met with tremendous success, and when combined with the growing population base, China has become one of the fastest-growing and most important industrializing regions of the world. This type of growth requires enormous amounts of power, and China has made a major commitment to nuclear power to help fuel this expansion.
