Ethylene copolymer viscosity index improver-dispersant additive useful in oil compositions
This patent describes an oil soluble composition useful as a V.I.-dispersant for lubricating oil, comprising the reaction product of: (a) an oil soluble ethylene copolymer comprising from about 15 to 90 wt.% ethylene and about 10 to 85 wt.% of one or more C/sub 3/ to C/sub 28/ alpha-olefin, having a number average molecular weight within a range of about 5,000 to 500,000. It is grafted with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid material having 1 to 2 carboxylic acid groups or anhydride groups; (b) from about 1 to 2 mole equivalents per mole of (a) of an alkylene or oxyalkylene amine having at least two primary amine groups; and (c) from about 0.1 to 4 mole equivalents per mole of (a) of a carboxylic acid.
