Constitutive modeling and characterization of the flow behavior of semi-solid metal alloy slurries; 2: Structural evolution under shear deformation

A linear equation is proposed to model the kinetics of the agglomeration evolution of semi-solid alloys under shear during transient processes. The material parameters appearing in the evolution equation are determined from shear rate jump experiments. The evolution equation is used together with a flow equation derived from shear rate ramp down experiments to simulate constant agglomeration state response and transient conditions. A comparison between calculation and experimental results performed on Sn-15 wt% Pb and Al-7% Si-0.6% Mg alloys is made for these conditions.
