The history of the discovery and use of nuclear energy is reviewed from the Soviet viewpoint, including contributions of Russian and Soviet Scientists to atomic science. Political issues are addressed, including atomic "blackmail", the nonproliferation treaty, a total and general ban on nuclear weapons testing, and peaceful uses for nuclear energy. Nuclear science research centers in the Soviet Union are described. (LEW)
