Correlated fission fragments emitted in the reaction of /sup 16/O on /sup 238/U at 20 MeV/nucleon

The reactions induced by 315-MeV /sup 16/O ions on /sup 238/U have been studied by observing the folding angle between the two fission fragments resulting from the sequential fission decay of the target residue in coincidence with reaction products ranging from protons to /sup 16/O ions. A kinematical analysis shows that the emission of light particles ( p,d,t,..cap alpha..) plays an important role for both central and peripheral reactions. It is concluded that these particles, most likely, are emitted during the early stages of the reaction.
