Magnetic properties of the diluted magnetic semiconductors Zn[sub 1[minus]x]Co[sub x]Se and Zn[sub 1[minus]x]Co[sub x]S

In this paper the magnetic specific heat, magnetization and low-field magnetic susceptibility of Co-based diluted magnetic semiconductors Zn[sub 1 [minus] x]Co[sub x]Se and Zn[sub 1 [minus] x]Co[sub x]S are calculated by using a Hamiltonian which takes into account both the Heisenberg-type nearest-neighbor exchange interactions and spin-orbit interactions. A fair agreement between theory and experiment is obtained. No magnetization steps are predicted in the ranges of temperature and magnetic field considered here.
