Evaluation of Criticality Criteria for Class II Packages in Transportation

Calculations were made for U (93.2) and typical insulation materials (Celotex) in ideal cubic arrays under various reflector conditions (three-and six-sided water and concrete). The reflector effect is greatly reduced because of the packaging materials. It is concluded that transportation criteria for criticality assessment of Class II packages have practical bases and that mass limits based on air-spaced units are suitable as mass limits for packages.
