Energy and the economy. A panel discussion at the thirty-fourth annual meeting of members and of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Gas Technology
In the introductory presentation, the audience was taken on a simple historical ''trip'' by means of musical and visual symbolism, to communicate an overall sense of the gravity of the conference. The panel discussion followed, and was moderated by Mr. John A. Redding, Vice President of Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Co. of Chicago. Speakers, in order of appearance, were Dr. J. Thomas Ratchford, Science Consultant, U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Science and Technology; Mr. G.J. Tankersley, President of Consolidated Natural Gas Co.; Dr. Lester D. Taylor, Department of Economics, University of Arizona; Mr. S. David Freeman, Energy and Resources Consultant, U.S. Senate Commerce Committee; and Dr. David C. White, Ford Professor of Engineering and Director, Energy Lab., Massachusetts Inst. of Tech. Following the individual presentations, a discussion followed among the members of the symposium panel. While the presentations and discussions involved natural gas perhaps more than other energy sources, practically all aspects of the economics of energy and policies affecting it were touched upon. Mr. Eric Zausner, Deputy Administrator, Federal Energy Administration, gave the luncheon address. (LMT)
