Status report on the gas potential from Devonian Shales of the Appalachian Basin

This report examines the potential for producing gas from the Devonian shales of the Appalachian Basin -- using existing technology under a variety of economic assumptions. The report describes the Devonian shale resource as well as general reservoir characteristics. The economics of Brown shale gas production are discussed as are the barriers to production that currently exist. Policy options to encourage the production of shale gas are presented.
