Low-density foam materials from styrene-divinylbenzene inverse emulsions

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7173757
This report documents the research and development work conducted by the Materials Research and Production Group of the LLNL ICF Program's Special Projects Group between 1985 and 1989. A foam material composed of heavily cross linked polystyrene-divinylbenzene was prepared from an inverse emulsion of the monomers in water. Final foam densities as low as 25mg/cm[sup 3] were obtained; cell sizes were not greater than 2 to 3 [mu]m. This report documents procedures and characterization of the final material.
