Tightening air toxic controls to meet new HON rule

Journal Article · · Pollution Engineering; (United States)
OSTI ID:7173266

Wastewater provisions of the Hazardous Organic NESHAP (HON) final rule have environmental managers for the synthetic organic chemical manufacturing industry (SOCMI) scratching their heads. In general, though, SOCMI professionals praise the Clean Air Act Amendment (CAAA) regulation's maximum achievable control technology (MACT) standards, which involve mostly tried-and-true processes familiar to industry. Subpart G of the rule offers multiple options for controlling hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) from wastewater treatment operations, storage vessels, process vents and transfer operations.
